| Purpose, Maintenance, and Editing Ease This newsletter will cover a combination of questions that people have submitted. We will cover what the main purpose of a website is, the importance of maintaining your website, and the easy editing features that allow you to maintain your website hassle-free! Nancy Miller of Morson Tourism/Morson Bass International asks, “How should a site be used when there are not a lot of events/things to promote?” The Purpose of a website The main purpose of a website is to provide the public with INFORMATION about your organization/business. Your site should outline the products you sell, the services that you offer, and hopefully drive physical traffic to your business. Once they've made it through the door, it is up to you, as a business professional, to 'close the deal'. If nothing else, your website should AT LEAST provide the public with your contact information. Let's face it, who searches the Yellow pages for a phone number anymore? Lorna Brown of Timber Wolf Lodge wants tips about maintaining a website effectively... Website maintenance This will be different for everyone, based on what type of business or organization you have, but a couple general rules of thumb: #1. ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOUR GENERAL, CONTACT, AND PRICING INFORMATION IS UP-TO-DATE! #2. Try to update the look of your site, at least every couple years. If your site looks dated, it reflects poorly on your business as a whole. Shanda DeGagne, of NW Road Management, then follows up by requesting information on “easy editing features” Editing ease with Drupal We have addressed the benefits of our CMS (content management system), Drupal in a previous newsletter, but it applies to this as well. Drupal allows our clients to edit and maintain their website's content. You have the ability to change text, upload photos, and link to other sites and files with a website powered by Drupal. If you currently have a Drupal website, feel free to browse our new training manual here, and if you would like more information about Drupal, please feel free to contact us and we can address any questions you may have. I hope this newsletter has been of some help and, as always, feel free to contact us with any questions you may have, and if you have any other newsletter topic suggestions, send them our way!
